The NYPD December 20, 2014 Challenge Coin is a commemorative piece that honors the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), specifically in relation to the events that occurred on December 20, 2014. This date marks a particularly somber moment in the history of the NYPD, as it was the day two of the department’s officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, were tragically killed in an ambush while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn. Their deaths were a devastating blow to the department and the entire city, and the coin serves as a tribute to their service and memory.
